Yellowstone National Cemetery

**Yellowstone County Email Spoofing Warning**
Email spoofing is the creation of email messages with a forged sender address. Because the core email protocols do not have any mechanism for authentication, it is common for spam and phishing emails to use such spoofing to mislead or even prank the recipient about the origin of the message.
It has been brought to our attention that erroneous emails being sent from an outside party posing to be a Yellowstone County Employee or Official. These emails may appear to be from Yellowstone County and could ask you to log onto a secure server to view an email message. Please refrain from opening these emails if you have not recently had an inquiry that would warrant an email being sent to your address.
What to do if you receive and email from a Yellowstone County Email and suspect it may be spoofed:
**District Court Telephone Scam Warning**
The Yellowstone County District Court recently received information regarding a scam to steal your money and/or personal information.
(1)The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by phone claiming that they have now been formally served and must contact Yellowstone County at a given number to avoid further action.
If you receive a call consistent with the descriptions above, please do the following:
District Court would only contact an individual by phone if they've been selected for jury duty and notified by mail, and did not respond as directed in the letter. Additionally, at the current time, District Court is compiling the new jury pool for 2017-2018, and if we receive a jury questionnaire back and have questions, that potential juror may be contacted by phone for further clarification. District Court would in no circumstances notify someone of either civil or criminal proceedings against them by phone.
**Justice Court Telephone Scam Warning**
The Yellowstone County Justice Court recently received information of a scam to steal your money and/or personal information.
(1)The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by phone saying that there is a civil judgment against them filed in Justice Court. The suspect states that that if they give him/her payment of the judgment by credit/debit cards they will not proceed with the action. The suspect asks for personal information and requires the person to make the payment over the telephone.
(2) The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by a collection agency saying that they owed money to the Justice Court and if they did not pay the collection agency immediately there would be a warrant issued for them.
If you receive a call consistent with the descriptions above, please do the following:
Justice Court personnel never initiate contact by telephone or email seeking personal information. If you have a concern regarding a matter in the Yellowstone County Justice Court clerks are available to answers questions by telephone, email or in person.
**Jury Service Phone/Email Scam Warning**
Identity thieves have contacted Yellowstone County residents and threatened them for failing to report for jury service. The thieves are seeking confidential information. The local courts and Jury Assembly Room staff will NEVER call you or e-mail you and ask for Social Security Numbers, credit card numbers or other sensitive information. Do not give out such information to anyone claiming to be with the judicial system who calls or e-mails you.
If a person did give out his/her Social Security Number, please call the Social Security Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271 and all three credit bureaus.
**Deed Scam Warning**
Recently several property owners within Yellowstone County have received an invoice/letter from an out of state entity requesting a fee for a copy of their deeds and other real estate related documents. The fees are significant and any property owner should show caution when an unknown entity solicits property records. You can receive a copy of your deed and other real estate related documents at the County Clerk and Recorder’s office. The cost to receive copies is $.50 for the first page and $.25 cents for additional pages of the document. Please call our office with any concern or questions.
*** Yellowstone County 4th Floor Relocation ***
Due to the limited space available in the Yellowstone County Courthouse all Departments on the 4th floor and two departments of the 3rd floor have moved to the Stillwater Building (large white building on the west side of the street - the former federal courthouse). All listed departments in the document will be located on the third floor at 316 North 26th Street in Billings, MT. The relocation of the departments is to make room for the new District Court Judges that will arrive in 2019.
